Cancer for Convenience? It’s Up to You

You see them everywhere.  Walking down the street, standing at the bus stop, shopping at the mall, sitting in cars – teenagers with their cell phones glued to their ears, happily gabbing with their friends.

Not that it’s surprising.  Teens and the telephone have had a love affair for decades.  And aside from being a minor annoyance to parents, it’s never really done any harm.  But that was before the age of cell phones.  We’re now finding out just how harmful these high-tech gadgets can be – especially to teenagers.

That’s the assertion of the Bioelectromagnetics Society, a respected group of international scientists and physicians who have recently published a new report called “Cellphone and Brain Tumors — 15 Reasons for Concern”.1 According to their report, cell phone use ups the risk of brain tumors and several other types of cancer in children — and the risk is significantly more than it is in adults.

What’s equally appalling about this news is that the cell phone industry and the mainstream media have covered it up for years.  The few studies that have been carried out by the cell phone industry are considered by experts to be biased, flawed and even suspicious.2 One industry study that should have been completed four years ago is still not done.

Compare this with the scrutiny that is given to herbs and nutritional supplements.  The FDA and the FTC are relentless in going after any company for the most minor infraction.

How can this kind of hypocrisy be explained?

Perhaps this is the answer: The cell phone industry is a $4 billion business and the moneyed people at the top will do whatever it takes to keep it going — even if young (and not so young) people all over the world are in jeopardy.  And it certainly doesn’t look like any government agency is going to stop them in the near future.

But we can fight back — and most of us including teenagers don’t even need to give up our cell phones for good.  The Society recommends that we follow these seven simple steps:1

  1. When on a call, use a wired headset — not a wireless headset such as Bluetooth — or use the device in speaker-phone mode, or send text messages.
  2. Keep the cell phone away from your body — particularly out of pant/trouser or shirt pockets — or use a belt holster designed to shield the body from cell phone radiation, when not in use (stand-by mode).
  3. Avoid use in a moving car, train, bus, or in rural areas at some distance from a cell tower (mast or base station) as any of these uses will increase the power of the cell phone’s radiation.
  4. Whenever possible, use the cell phone like an answering machine. Keep it off until you want to see who has called. Then, return calls, if necessary, using a wired headset or a corded land-line phone.
  5. Avoid use of cell phones inside of buildings, particularly with steel structures.
  6. Do not allow your children to sleep with a cell phone beneath their pillow or at the bedside.
  7. Do not allow your children under 18 to use a cell phone except in emergencies.

According to Mr. Lloyd Morgan, lead author of the Society study, “Exposure to cell phone radiation is the largest human health experiment ever undertaken, without informed consent, and has some 4 billion participants enrolled…The public must be informed.”

Do your part by passing this information on to your friends and family.  Let’s put a stop to being guinea pigs for the obscene profits of the cell phone industry.  Together, we’ll save lives.

I appreciate an article which provides such realistic, useful suggestions for reducing risks from cell phones. So many articles are just fear mongering and try to sell the ‘miracle solution’ or tell you to stop cell phones completely, which we know is not going to happen. It may be possible to use all these 7 suggestions on a daily basis.

Thank you for such a useful article.

    Hi,
This was a great article and, I believe, 100% accurate.

I want to find out if there is any creditability to another similar situation. I have heard of people sitting with their laptop in their lap while working, no matter where they are. Will wi-fi have the same effect? I have read that this can cause health problems in the midsection of our bodies. Is this correct?

    Thank You.

I have not yet found any confirmation that hearing aids have the same effect. If they do we are going to see a large population in a world of hurt because the hearing aid must be in the ear and almost always on. If hearing aids perform the way cell phones do in terms of self generated radiation, or the like, it is an inescapable exposure that is very unfortunate for the hearing impaired.I had a friend who wore a hearing aid and died of a very aggressive brain tumor.
Please inform as to this issue.
    Thanks.

    Hi Folks,

What a great effort in the right direction. The reality is gradually staring us on the face. The earlier we realise the sincererity of this study and suggestions, the better for all of us.

    Cheers
