Sugar Shock… For Real!
Mary Poppins Had it All Wrong…
I spend a good portion of my day researching for Total Health Breakthroughs. So there isn’t much that surprises me in the mainstream news. But this item did. American adults are eating 22 teaspoons of sugar every day. And that’s not even the worst of it. Children between 14 and 18 consume even more — to the tune of 34 teaspoons every day!
Where is all this sugar coming from?
As you might expect, soft drinks are the biggest culprit. They’re followed closely by candy, cakes, cookies and pies. But for those of you who don’t eat these foods and think you’re off the hook— consider this. One small container of fruit-filled yogurt contains 6 teaspoons of added sugar. And just one cup of frosted whole grain cereal has 3 teaspoons.
These foods are advertised as healthy, but that couldn’t be more wrong. The reality is, by eating too much of them, you are being set up for diabetes and even heart disease.
You can do more to keep your sugar intake down by eating fresh organic foods —and avoiding processed foods filled with hidden sugars.
And if you do want to indulge in the occasional sweet treat or sweeten your coffee or tea, use stevia or Erythritol. These are both natural products which have no calories and which produce no glycemic response.
A good rule of thumb: “healthy” foods in packages are usually anything but.
The Steep Price of Killing Germs
For years we have been washing our hands and dishes with antibacterial soaps. The manufacturers even told us that it could increase protection from germs that cause colds and flu. But that is not what has happened.
These crafty little bacteria have built up resistance to the soap and now it’s harder than ever to kill them. In fact, they are becoming resistant to life-saving antibiotics as well — like the one that kills TB.

For more than 20 years, tamoxifen has been the drug of choice for treating estrogen-fueled breast cancer. But a new study now shows that the drug may cause the unthinkable to happen in a large percentage of women.
Researchers found that long-term tamoxifen use raises the risk of a rare but deadly second cancer in the opposite breast by a staggering 440%. In the study, it was found that in 1,103 breast cancer survivors who were given tamoxifen, 369 developed the second cancer. The cancer is not related to estrogen and there are no specific drugs to treat it.
This alarming news should give all women a much-needed reminder about the life-threatening risks associated with mainstream cancer treatments. You’re very big on citing mainstream research on traditional medicine, but that kind of research is conspicuously absent regarding your recomendations….where are your long term studies on bioidentical hormones? Where are your studies that show that regular hormone testing is even valid….especially given that there is no standard to which ALL women must attain to be normal? Postmenopausal normal levels are very low…so why are you recomending women reach premenopausal levels? And who set these standards, based on what research?
It’s so typical for people to want to take a pill, be it prescription or “herbal” rather than take the necessary steps for weight loss….diet and exercise…we need to be sending a different message about peoples health…prevention…prevention….prevention…
