Mort Mather
Morton King Mather has been an organic farmer in southern Maine since 1969. He is the author of Gardening for Independence and has founded two non-profits — one saved a farm on the Maine Coast and the other saved the historic Ogunquit Playhouse. Mort is a certified organic farmer supplying vegetables for his family-run restaurant (http://joshuas.biz) in Wells, Maine.
Mort was born in Manhattan and raised on a farm in New Jersey. Prior to farming, he served in the Coast Guard for three years, graduated from the University of Wisconsin, and stage managed professional theatre in major cities throughout the US.
Mort was president of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association in its early years and is a successful fund raiser, consultant, philosopher, writer, speaker, and restaurateur.
He has been a regular contributor to the Mother Earth News, had a weekly column in the York County Coast Star, and written articles for Countryside magazine, the Maine Times, and Organic Gardening. You can learn more about Mort by clicking here.
