Eating a Breast Cancer Preventive Diet
If you have read any breast cancer prevention articles over the last month, you probably saw several articles on making sure your diet includes plenty of omega-3 fats as well as high antioxidant-containing foods like berries, colorful vegetables, beans/legumes, and green tea — all to help your body keep damage from free radicals to a minimum. This is all good advice, but it does not adequately address the other side of the equation — avoiding foods that promote inflammation in the body.
Are There Really Any “Super Foods”?
As a dietitian, I strongly believe in the power of a healthy diet to improve a person’s life — but I do sometimes grow tired of headlines like “The 7 Super Foods You Should Always Eat,” “3 Healthy Breakfasts for a Better You” or “Super Berry Fights Heart Disease and Cancer.” While I understand the intent of most of these types of articles, no one food (e.g., an acai berry) or even ten foods, has the power to completely eliminate your chance for disease — and may not do much at all depending on other health factors you may have.

The ultimate diet for any animal is the one designed by nature. Any competent veterinarian could tell you this. Sadly, many human doctors and nutritionists appear to be totally blind to this simple fact.
